This week, I recommend you check out the books of Alberta author, Steven Owad. I first met Steve at a get-together of Calgary mystery writers about four years ago and we quickly discovered I was Alberta sales rep for his first two books published by Rendezvous Crime, an imprint of Napoleon & Company of Toronto. We continued to meet for coffee and to talk about our writing. Steve is also an editor, so he was a great sounding board for me before I published my own mystery. I was pleased that Steve agreed to read at a recent literary salon I organized, and relieved (Phew!) that he received copies of his latest publication, Hard Currency just in the nick of time to sell at the salon!
Like his second novel, Brother’s Keeper, Owad’s new novel is also set in Warsaw, Poland, a place he knows well as he lived in the city for many years, working as an editor of an English-language newspaper. Steve moved back to Canada with his wife Aleksandra and their daughter Sara, and they now make Calgary their home. Steve continues to work as an editor and still edits Polish English-language publications. He also writes plays and screenplays.
Bodycheck, Steve’s first novel, is set in Calgary. The two other novels were inspired by his experiences living in Poland, and he declares that post-Communist Warsaw is actually the main character of his latest mystery. Steve will launch Hard Currency in the fall. Check out the book trailer! Both Bodycheck and Brother’s Keeper are available as eBooks.
