Not an auspicious beginning…
So, four days into my trip to Toronto I slipped on glare ice and broke my right ankle. A fine welcome back to the old country and not a great way to go sliding into a new job that begins in a month’s time. Janice took me to the East General Emergency where it was determined I had indeed broken a bone, but there was no displacement (a good thing!) and a plaster splint cast was put on. I was told that I should not move it or put pressure on it for a week when I must return to the fracture clinic and will hopefully graduate to a walking cast - one of those cool grey plastic ones. My sister reiterated that instruction on immobilzation, although when she said it it was more like, “You’re going to stay put on that couch and not expect to go anywhere because I don’t want to have to look after you any longer than that if you do manage to redamage the break by doing something stupid!” She has since bought me flowers, however, and is cooking dinners for me. She even had a wireless system installed so I can use my laptop up here in the living room while she works at her own desktop downstairs. Now I can email, asking her for things like coffee or to get the book over there on the table that I can’t quite reach. Sometimes she even replies and complies… At least no blood has been shed yet. Our mother, were she still alive, would have been proud, if not somewhat amazed, even shocked, to see us playing so nicely together.
In the meantime, I’ve had to cancel appts. and miss fun things that I had planned to do while in Toronto - Grrr!!! But, on the plus side, I am getting a lot of my computer files cleared out, have been reading a lot, and watching movies. Now if I could just set my mind to working on that final assignment for the online editing course I’ve been taking…
